Importing Frontpage web site

I am trying to import a web site created with FP 2003 to my PC. I want to do maintenance to the web and publish it. Should I use the import wizard? If so, in the section "How do you want to get the files", do I select Front page server selections or HTTP? I have imported it, made minor changes including adding a PDF file to a web page and published it. I get the message "Server error. Write error on file MLSC April 2005 Newsletter.pdf.tmp". This is a PDF file that I added but it doesn't have the tmp extension on it. What is my problem? My ISP told me to try reinstalling the frontpage extensions in my hosting control panel. I am at a loss as what to do next. Is there a document that tells you how to import an FP web site?

I think you probably should "publish" the site to your computer. That way everything stays intact.

You open the site ("http:*//www.thesite.com") and publish it to a folder on your computer such as ("C:\mydocuments\mywebs\thesite")

I just bought a new computer and that's how I got a 10K page site transferred over to it.

I agree - the import feature never really was all that great. Use the publish feature & you should have no problems.

After you do what's suggested above, if you still get a server error then you should reinstall the FP extensions, but first "uninstall" the extensions. This will make sure that you get new copies of any files that might have been corrupted. So, uninstall, then reinstall. Both functions should be simple mouse clicks in your control panel.

The uninstall routine deletes the .htacess file. If you are using a customized .htaccess be sure to make a backup copy before running the uninstall routine.
