Dreamweaver opens in code view

How can I force Dreamweaver to open in split view?

I have two copies of Dreamweaver MX on two different computers. One works fine, however the second insists on always opening documents in Code View.

I prefer to work in "Code and Design View", so have to manually change it each time.

Does anyone know how to make Dreamweaver MX open in "Code and Design View" by default? I've compared settings on my two computers and can't see what is different.

Usually dreamweaver opens a file for me however it was when I last closed it on that computer.

DW should remember the setup you had when you last closed down the program, but one thing you can check is to go to edit > preferences > file types/editors and up the top of the right hand side you'll see 'Open in Code View' with a bunch of file types. Check you haven't got anything untoward in there.

Hi 2oddsox... thanks for that suggestion - I checked though, and HTML etc aren't listed in that box.

Do you have any other ideas?

Afraid not, jetnovo. Assuming all your files have extensions in the file name, the only other thing I can think of is to simply remove the program and re-install. Your copy on that machine is not behaving as intended, so perhaps a fresh install will do the trick.

Perhaps others will have better suggestions.

View > Code and Design.

That will stay as default (it certainly does on mine).
