DWMX6.1 templates adding <?xml version="1.0" encoding="iso-8859-1"?>

When I open a custom template through the File->New menu, it adds above the DTD the code: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="iso-8859-1"?>. I know this causes quirks mode when viewing XHTML in IE, and I cannot work out how to remove it.

The template code itself does not include the XML encoding reference, just when it is opened and displayed on the screen as an untitled-document.

I have tried unselecting the "Make XHTML Compliant" in the New panel and the Preferences panel, but this only stops the XML encoding reference from including in the new HTML pages I create, not the templates.

If someone could give me a method to stop Dreamweaver adding this code when opening a template, I would be very grateful. Been working on it all day.

Flippy, welcome to WebmasterWorld

There is a free DW extension which is available through your favourite search engine called "Strip <?xml?> Tag" which will stop that tag being saved in new documents (apart from if that document is an .xml one).
