Search Engines and Folders

I use FP2003 and am creating a new site.

What is the thinking now about creating folders or keeping all pages on the top level for search engine purposes?

I know that folders clean things up nicely on the webmaster side, but I want to make my pages as attractive as possible for the search engines.

Do pages stored in folders (www.Apples/Types/Green) get lower results than those on upper levels (www.apples/green)?

Thanks.

According to testing, yes they do. My advice is to get out of FP and use a better HTML editor.

I think extreme folder levels will hurt your SEO aspirations. You don't want 8 folder levels.

The furthest i go is 5 levels deep, but if you link to these pages naturally from related content within your site and use keywords in the urls that are relevant to that product you will be okay. I am sure of that.

But i guess we still need to monitor and take note of any changes produced from the jagger update. Check back then ;-)
