Does Virtual Hosting vs. Stand Alone IP Harm SE Results

Is it myth or reality?

I've been a reseller for 8 years, and my host moved all my sites to a new server with virutal hosting in early July. All my sites now share the same IP address.

Over the years I have heard that virutal hosting is a no-no for SEO, especially if you have multiple sites linked to one another, which I do in some cases, as many of my sites are related thematically.

I have not yet seen any detrimental effect on any of my sites' positions. I talked to my host about it - one of the larger hosting companies - and they said they have yet to hear about this being a problem. They also informed me that more than 50% of all hosting worldwide is now done on virtual, shared servers.

Does anyone know whether this issue is myth or reality?'

Thanks,
MJ

It's simply one of many factors that can come into play, for instance, in the case of heavy cross-linking of sites.

Just one of many, but can be a confirming or telltale sign of sites deliberately networked and cross-linked to game a SE.

I think you should be comparing:

* Virtual hosting vs dedicated hosting vs shared hosting

or

* Fixed IP vs shared IP

I have found that getting a dedicated server is better than a shared host because its CPU is not working for other people and tends to keep the spiders on site longer. In practical terms, my earnings increased from 2 sales a quarter to several dozen each month for one site. My sites on the dedicated server use just one IP.
