Keywords as image file names

Would naming image files as keywords optimize the site?

Hi,

I recently came across this site which was quite different. This site apparently uses keywords as image file names on its site.

For example, instead of using header.jpg, they used keyword.jpg this is the way it was set up all throughout the site.

Now, this makes me wonder. Would this make any difference? From the way a SE would spider a site, i'm led into believing that it would improve the site's ranking across all SE's.

Any comments?

Should not make any difference at all. I name images so I know what they are.

Sem,

The way you name the images are different. Or so I presume. It would be more like topheader.jpg or menubackgrnd.gif

But picture this. If you are targeting a keyword "A", then the images named are A1.jpg, A2.jpg You know, different variations of the keywords.

In this case, you would just not know what the image files would be, since they are named after keywords and the file names are not self explanatory. The purpose would be to name the images after the targeted keywords.

Hope you get the image here? ;)

Picture this: my sites with top rankings across the SEs have all sorts of file names for headers, etc. like header1_2.jpg.

It won't make any difference. Search engines care about text - they couldn't care less what your image file names are called. Well they could help you with the image searches but you don't want your header image coming up when it should be widget a.
