Asuming that people pay attention to your Alexa traffic ranking, you would want your traffic ranking to show favorably.

One way I have thought of to do this is to have a link and image on my page which allows my regular viewers to go and download and install the Alexa Toolbar. I would assume that you would want as many as possible of your regular visitors to have the Alexa Toolbar installed. Therefore, you would be happy to encourage a link to the Alexa Toolbar install page right?

I think that would work. However, I see no benefit in trying to artificially inflate your Alexa rank.

The Alexa rank is only useful if you can compare your sites with others on an even level. If you distort yours artificially then you have nothing to compare it against.

Well there are 2 ways that you can look at your Traffic Ranking as measured by Alexa:

1. It is a marketing tool. i.e. The better that it is the more business that it will draw.
2. It is a business research tool that you use to compare yourself against your competitors.

If you use it as 1. then you may want to manipulate your Traffic Rank. If you use it as 2. then you want it as accurate as possible BUT you must then assume that your competitors are manipulating it.

I have 25 clients sites listed in Alexa. Never have ever gotten any traffic from Alexa on any of them.

And besides all the links on Alexa are 302 redirects.
