Hi folks!

Whats the difference between inbound links if:

(a) they point to the front page
(b) they point to random deep links

Is the front page of a website the result
of all inbound deep links added together?

Or is the front page like any random page?

if i want to determine the page rank i use the front page as this is the one that will determine the rank within the google directory.

so is the rank of the index page independent or dependent of the sum of all page ranks of the internal pages the whole website consists of?

if i have the chance, should i decide to link to the front page or to individual pages within that page?

cheers!

The front page, like any other page, has a pagerank that is determined by all the pages linking to it; external and internal.

Deep links are important and should be a part of your overall strategy. But it there are many things to consider such as your sites structure and whatever advantages having high page rank on certain pages (index or otherwise) may provide.

Definitely don't neglect the deep pages because usually those are your money terms that are much more highly targeted.
