According to comScore Media Metrix qSearch, Google and Yahoo lead in US searches with at-work and university located users.

Anyone have suggestions about finding engine market shares based on audience? ie C-level searchers (CIO, CTO, etc.)

So, in your opinion or data you might know of: what engines do senior mgmt and C-level people use?

My best guess would be Google. Why?

Because, Google was originally used by 'geeks' & other 'smart people' so it would make logical sense for them to be using it.

However, consider the natural language bent of ASK - or the 'expert search' that is Teoma.

Adwords, if you are considering what marketing vehicle will get you the distribution you are looking for reach wise, will get you into all three databases.

Haven't seen any statistics on that but I would agree that Google then Yahoo are probably the top search destinations for that area as well.

The people who reside in top-level management positions keep track of the markets as well as read up on the latest tech trends and news. Even though Google is still private they have been plastered all over these types of media.

Also, information always has a way of moving up the corporate ladder so you can probably count someone having told Mr. or Mrs. Big to "Google it".

I'm in agreement with both of you - however, I need to find market share %'s. maybe it is time I request a market research report. :)

For the kind of specific data you are looking for a market research report may be the only option. :)

Also you might try 'buying data' off of some site(s) that target CXO level corporate types, to see where their referrals come from (eg, their webtrends / hitbox / analytics reports).

The problem is that you need not only engine data, but customer profiles as well and few, if any, firms are willing to disclose that type of data, as it is very valuable.

Do let us know if you get a freebie along these lines, eh?

I'll definately share if I can locate any public/free info but I have a feeling I might need to cough up some dough to get a research firm. :(
