What is the future role of the search engine in society?
Will it be a yahoo which basically has its foot in every pie available , if so then investing in google is the future? Google will have , job search , travel , shop ect ?
Therefore you can conclude that in 40 years , shopping can be dictated by a pyramid scheme whereby search engines are at the top and then SEO specialist's?
Where is the web heading? Basically is boils down to the rich getting richer and the big getting bigger?
the next question to ask would be --> are search engines moving towards monopolistic operations? How would this change if they are considered this? or perhaps an ogolopolistic pyramid model could be defined?
Hell these are just thoughts i dunno? But what does the future bring?
I, for one, would be interested in joining anyone willing to explore the idea of creating a directory that instead ranks any product or service, consumer or industrial, online or brick and mortar, by its value or quality.

What is the role of a SE today? I think, today the impact of the major SEs are underestimated. There are journalists, even of well-known magazines, who research solely with Google - in their articles only the experts whose pages can be found within the Top10 or Top20 are mentioned.
Or another example: I sometimes hear people saying: "This is a good site since it is number one on Google!"
I'm sure there are plenty of examples like these.
This shows me that the major SEs have an enormous influence today; and I'm sure they will have an even bigger influence tomorrow.
