"Personalized Results"
Presented for ACM 2002 Sept.
This is a very good read.
Yes some data is old and Google was more spammy at the time, but from ZDLabs/eTesting,Inc. 2000, some exciting results were discovered.
Novice and experienced users using Outride completed tasks in almost half the time as compared to using Google. Novice users on Outride actually beat Yahoo and AOL search experts.
Some of you are panicking about Froogle being released but that is nothing compared to how this can effect your search engine traffic.
Google's main focus now is on making money, so whether or not they use this as it was meant to be used is totally up to them. They might just use some of these concepts to complement their existing search or they might go full-blown toolbar/log-in/cookie personalization. One thing is for sure, Google personalization will come into effect or else they never would have acquired this technology.
On a side note...
Sometimes you see people here complain about seeing some hidden text on a site/page. They complain that the site is spammy and is beating out their site, which they deem is better. What happens if so much collected data shows that that hidden text site is more relevant and interesting than their site? Will that not be a good laugh?
