Hi all,

in this thread about CSS and SEO [webmasterworld.com] the quesiton of whether Search Engines recognize and weigh HTML elements was raised.

What do we know?

I think there is clear importance given to the <hx> tags and I'm pretty sure that <strong> and <em> are counted as important.

What about other HTML elements such as <li> and <blockquote> etc?

Do SE's weigh these elements?

No real experience here -- but what I tend to think, once you get by the obvious "newspaper" copy elements, there is limited weight factored in... although they should not be completely excluded.

Element attributes do add weight & to all elements - and I consider these as "always important" both to crawl-ability and usability.
