I always hear people say, how much bigger is one engine over another, and when I was looking at some Nettracker Stats today, I saw a glimpse that I thought I would share.... just to confuse the situation :)...so, considerate it shoddy piece of semi useless research because I'm afraid any conclusions we draw from this will probably be wrong:) but at least you have some numbers to play with....

2 words term

at goto:
Searches done in February 2002

Count- Search Term
 98326 - XXXXXX XXXXX

rank in Yahoo: #4 in 'Web Site Matches' (but there are 3 sponsored links above me.... so I'm 7th on the page)

rank in google:#1 (but there is one sponsored link above me)

referrals from Y! in March: 635 (21.7%)
referrals from G in March: 850 (29.0%)

I say this for a number of reasons
-goto looks at both singular and plural versions and gives you the singular version.... Y! and G! are plural sensitive.... I don't which one is typed in more in this case.... but I think I rank better for the singular in both engines
- the same site ranks for other phrases as well in those two engines but overall, the 2 word term accounts for 28.2% of all traffic to the site.... and out of that 28.2% it seems half come from each SE. (FYI #2 highest is 7.1% and #6 is 0.8%.... so it drops fast.... very focused site.)
- it would be much easier if I just ranked #1 in both:)

Could be an intersting experiment... but I have a couple of question for you...

Are the Y/G refferals only from that keyphase? Also, would you classify your target user as internet savvy?
