Stlyesheets. If you were to use this:

<div class=seotext>Get your whatever - web whatever registration,
email forwarding <a href="http://...." class="seotext">
web whatever registration</a></div>

to have a link this hidden under the image of a logo.

Will Search engines get upset about this? will it do any good in terms of link text?

Are we trying to accomplish having a hidden layer?

If this is the case.....I have seen it work with some search engines, but think about the ones that are human reviewed.

You know it's really never worth being banned for spamming for adding an extra bit of link text ( he says answering his own question ).

I have heard tales of a banning from google where the only possible crime the webmaster could have committed was a hidden layer.

that is very true, and I would say don't do it.....but, I have seen well known companies within the industry that use this method.

There are a lot of uses for the "div" tag layer to be considered spam. I use the "div" tag to add a hidden hyperlink, a misspelling or to slide in a description on engines that do not read meta-descriptions. If you use it this way I think you will be fine.
