What is a "Target" Meta Tag?

What is:
<META NAME="target" CONTENT=" keyword1, keyword2, keyword3"

I saw this meta tag and have never seen it before. The "target" meta tag was a duplicate of the keyword meta tag.

Does this help or hurt w/ ranking? Any ideas?

there is a dreamweaver add on "meta tag generator" which generates meta tags, amoungst the tags it offers is the target tag ... i think this could help account for its popularity.

people use it as a duplicate for the keywords tag, according to what i've learned here and in other places on the web, no search engine seems to recognise it, (apart from maybe the Atomz search engine, according to the dreamwarrior website [dmedia.net...] )

Tanks click_watcher! This explains why I have also seen some other meta tags I'm not too familar with.

i recognise that tag

its specific to atomz search, atomz.com provide a great service that i highly recomend, atomz will give you a small piece of code which allows users to search your site

when i used to have a large site i used to use their service and noticed that although the search is very acurate, for a few specific terms the results where a bit poor (my fault) but the "target" meta tag soon resolved this

[atomz.com...]

Just my 2 cents,

Any metas else from keywords and description is a waist for overall search market. If you do not use some technology to deliver specific content for some given SE, other metas are useless or will harm you a little.
