SE traffic deviations

How much does yours differ from week to week?

I am noticing a pretty large deviation in week-to-week referrals from the SE's. I know rankings come and go, but I still feel like this is weird. Besides an increasing traffic trend, it differs as much as 30% from Tuesday to Tuesday (looking at the trend of referrals on Tuesdays only, across the last few months). So I have a graph that looks like mountains, with the peaks and valleys raising over time. Does this sound like your experience?

It depends from site to site, but I am seeing somethign similar with one of my most recent sites......interesting and frustrating at the same time.

I monitor several sites. Some have seasonal variations, some others vary from day of the week and some other from the our of the day. It depends of the nature of the site and what external factors are affecting it.

If your positions on SE does not change, then it is logically a fluctuation in demand. Interesting that my site owners now all about it.

I totally agree with this theory, but it is not working for our site. Seems like it should be either seasonal, or consistant across days of the week (minus holidays), depending on the site's user base. I compare our site by comparing days of the week against each other over time. This is because our overall pattern is consistent this way. But still, some weeks are much lower than others. Very strange!

Some of your traffic deviations may be seasonal, some may also be due to SE's rotating or testing new algos. Perhaps you are also missing some referrals via occasional cached pages. Lots of possibilities.
Our traffic, across all domains is pretty steady, and spikes are usually explainable via seasonal variations, and offline promotions by the client. <They don't usually tell us beforehand, but when we see a spike, we inquire.> You should not have this problem, if it is *your* domain.
