When it comes to SEO, the uncommon strategies are based on long-term development of a website. Specifically: ensuring that your site is truly the authority on the subject; allowing inbound links to build organically; and thinking first and foremost of whether visitors will find the site useful.
This is in contrast to the usual SEO tactics, which involve pumping up kw's in the text, scraping other sites for content, exchanging links with other sites for no other reason than to get links, buying recently-expired, old domains, and using their established SE trust to present pron, using novel ways to hide kw stuffing, establishing temp grab-and-dash link-farms, and all the other stuff that still works to a certain degree.
Hope this helps.
