Possible discrepancy between logs and clisks

Hi,

Has anyone else noticed that the clicks that you pay for don't show up as entries in your web logs?

I use Espotting and Overture UK. In the first 2 weeks of August Overture says I had 289 clicks. This resulted in just 15 lines in my logs from Overture.

I've looked in a bit more detail at Espotting. The Espotting click report for 1/Aug/2002 shows 12 clicks but I only have 5 lines from Espotting in my web logs for that day. In fact two of those seem a bit questionable as they are virtually identical and are within 6 seconds of each other.

Is it more likely that my web logs are innacurate or the click reports are wrong?

I'd appreciate a bit of expert input.

Thanks

Sid

Alot of people have referring urls turned off in their browser, or blocked by a filter. Use a unique url in your Overture listings for closer tracking.

It could also indicate either a log problem or a server problem. If you have a really slow website (2-3seconds delay), chances are good that people are hitting the back button before your site even responds. To test that out, put a counter at the very top of the page (ssi), and a ssi counter at the bottom of the page and compare the two counters.

Clicks from PPC engines partners show up under the partner's name not the PPC engines name..

This is probably what your seeing...

Like Brett said, send the PPC traffic to a unique url for better tracking...

(referring url's) is that hits to a page or how many people used your site with different url's?
