I use overture to build lists of related words... I am wondering if wordtracker is a worthwhile alternative... is it better?

I prefer WordTracker by a LARGE margin. For one thing, I think its numbers give you a more accurate idea of what kinds of results to expect.

Even more important, WordTracker will show you the searches for all the variations of a word that Overture just lumps together. Singular, plural, hyphenated, spelling variants, etc. all show up separately in WordTracker but not Overture. It can be enormously helpful to know, for instance, that more people search using the plural of this term but the singular of that term, but Overture won't show you that (or at least it didn't last time I used their tool - it's been a while!).

I have to agree with buckworks. I think that the results on Overture are corrupted with all the advertisers checking their rankings.

I also especially like the ability to check for misspellings at Wordtracker. I recently learned that there are at least nine ways to spell furniture...

I use both.
I agree with buckworks regarding singular and plural etc. in WordTracker.

In building lists of related words I suggest you to have a look at what some engines show you.

I am thinking about:

- Altavista (Refine your search with AltaVista Prisma )
- Excite ( Are you looking for? )
- [ez2com...] (clustered results)
- wisenut (WiseGuide categories for)
- Teoma ( refine suggestions to narrow your search)

Combining keyword tools together with the search engine refine function is the best strategy.

Another suggestion is having a look at the META of your competitors..

I don't think it matters, I use both as just guides to what is really going on. If you use them as indicators then you can measure your own results against what you saw. It's like any business, everything is only a guess until you make it work.
