Would you make a sales-pitchy landing page

for PPC search engines?

I have a product website. You know, I sell stuff, not stuff that's generally prone to sales-pitchy tactics. Catalog type Bombay Company- Pottery Barn-ish stuff.

I am trying to use overture to drive very very targeted search results to specific product pages.

But I'm wondering if that's enough.

Since the traffic is paid traffic, I want to make sure it converts as well as possible. Therefore, I was wondering if it would be beneficial to develop a more sales pitchy type landing page for the overture ad.

Not quite as informercial-ish, but a tasteful middle ground between active sales pitch and passive catalog.

Just wondering what others think of this.

You could try using a minor sales pitch in your text for overture, that way peopel who land on your site know what you are selling, and unlikely to click on a link if they dont want to buy. As for the landing page I think you need to use a lot of good sales techniques because the last thing you want them to do is click the back button.

Yes, I would and I do -- I create special pages specifically for PPC campaigns. This is a place where I haul out all my big guns - everything I know about marketing the particular product or service.

Especially when a visitor clicks through right to a specific product page, they haven't had any of the "surrounding" information that another visitor might have seen.

Every type of sale is different, so how "over the top" or "sales pitchy" I get is very specific to the niche where I am promoting. But a PPC campaign is a very special chance to craft a dedicated page. I would never make it vanilla.

Test different pitches and different degrees of sales pitch go with whatever works.
