Answer MORE (mainly because of traffic and the partners, not many more keywords)

Do you spend more than $1000 per month at Overture
YES, but steadily going down and my sales are steadily going up (?)

In the last 6 months, have you removed or dramatically reduced a bid on a keyword?
YES

Comments:

Have you opened more accounts? No, I've given up on dealing with rejections. Although I usually got accepted with different editors, it's a pain to do things multiple times. The more I spend, the more traffic but sales do not increase and the average view time per page goes down. Lots of competitor clicks and suspicious ones like "oingo" at the high end.

Have you closed accounts? No, but I've trimmed a few hundred keywords that weren't worth the clutter on my reports. I've reduced prices on many and was able to lower my average CPC to around .07 (lots of grandfathered words) even though I have bids up to .50 on some.

NO

I have opened more accounts in the past month than in the previous year. I haven't had any problems with keywords getting rejected yet (knock on wood) but I have heard many tales of very legitimate keywords that are very relevant to a site getting rejected. As long as I can get traffic for less than it is worth to me I will keep using Overture.

Comments:

Went from a broad approach (many keywords) to more focused approach (few high paying keywords).

2001 = $2500/month
2002 = $600-900/month
Result so far = less lookers, more buyers, at 1/2 the cost.

YES (big bid reductions as volume increased, followed by reductions by those above and below me, frequently. No keyword removals [well, voluntarily].)
