I just saw a full page ad in DIRECT magazine for Overture. They claimed:

With just one buy, Overture distributes search listings to thousands of sites across the Internet...

What are all the "sites" they are talking about? Must be at least 2,000 for the language to be accurate.

"About GoTo.com GoTo.com (NASDAQ: GOTO) created and operates an online marketplace that introduces consumers and advertisers. Consumers conduct searches using the GoTo.com search service at its Web site and at more than 100,000 locations across the Internet where GoTo.com can be accessed through its Search Syndication Network"

Press Release 9/13/99 [corporate-ir.net]

No, they will not provide the Network list.
Why? Because according to Nathan's site there are currently 225 PPC's who most certainly would SPAM that list in order to attempt to cut a sweeter deal with the site owners.

I bet they are counting their search box affiliates.

Tip for the wise though is that it is not just search engines.

If anyone remembers the shopping portal company I was working for, (well, dooyoo?), you could see that they added a search feature to the site that uses Overture. They also pick some of the top relevant search terms for each category to highlight.

So, in the Motors (Vehicles) category you'll see pre-set search links for "Car Loans", "Finance" and "Insurance Quote" etc. While in the Travel category you'd see pre-set search links for "Air Travel", "Accomodation" and "US Travel", etc.

Yes, they are counting their search box affiliates. If the search box is prominent on the site, and the site is significant, then so they should.
