Different re between plural

I thought it didn't matter if you type in plural words or not into Overture. I am noticing that they do return different results. Am I mistaken or did they recently change plural search results?

Also, if using the GoTo/Overture tool and it displays that x amount of searches are performed for a search term, does that take into account the other search engines that use the top 3 paid listings?

Only on some terms. Not all. EXAMPLE book and books are the same as far as I checked 1 to 10
