High Bids

I did a search for the word 'data recovery' on Goto.com and was shocked at what advertisers are paying for 1 click. $15.51 per click! wow! I also did a search for 'incorporation' and the top bid was $11.00!

Does anyone know any more highly competetive words on GoTo.com where advertisers are paying large click-thru rates(above $5.00 per click)?

hi SebadohSucker welcome to the WmW

it makes you wonder what type of budget these companies have to pay so much per click, well not unless in the last few minutes it's gone up by $3:00 now running at $18:51.

And to think I was upset when I found out mt little $0:01 bids would soon cost me $0:05

Hi all!

Our limit is $ 0.75.
Checking che click-trough rate it is much better to look for lower bids in phrases of three four words.
It is a big job to look for so many phrases, but it values and you risk less than unfair competitors click to you just for fun.

Use all the instruments in searching good keywords and related keywords. The first two Goto listings in Altavista score fine in these days.

"search engine optimization" always makes me wonder what people are thinking of (currently at $4+)

Some of the finance ones got crazy but have settled back down.

Then there are some competitive keywords that are realatively low (kelly blue book, and the whole "car quote" neighborhood). Just a matter of the roi.

Any other above $4? or $10?

"data recovery" is my favorite. I've seen it as high as $22. You gotta believe that some one who is looking for that is a good conversion prospect!

With Dennis Tito paying millions of dollars to take a trip to the International Space Station aboard the Russian Soyuz rocket, you would think, that the term "Space Travel" would command a high price.

Currently it is at .02 .

Anyone have a rocket in their pocket?

"tape data recovery" is a steel cage death match at the moment. $19.80 they have been duking it out for the last two weeks.

Considering I frequently tear my hair out whether or not to make the big leap from 5 cents to 6 cents. This thread makes me quite disgusted! :P

If AskJeeves ever used this bidding system... I wonder how much I would need to get for a search phrase: "Why is my startup broke?"

I think the dot-com graveyards must be filling up now! I mean, realistically speaking, who can turn a profit THAT easily through website traffic? I just can't see the legitimacy here...

New question for all those involved here too... How much has YOUR highest bid per click been, and what's the phrase you've become addicted to?

:)

It seems backwards that they are charging us to put our sites in their directories and databases, when it is our sites that is keeping their businesses alive.

Let me take that back, it's not backwards it's ridiculous the money that they are charging nowadays

Sometimes companies will bid more for some terms than they are really worth as a sort of 'branding' exercise - I do this myself with some clients, but only by a few cents as a rule.

Gambling currently trades in the $8 range - but as this is a super-high traffic word it is obviously very expensive for whomever is sitting on top.

Apparently, there are over 12K searches performed on this term - per DAY.

You got it Mike, you'd never believe how busy.

I'm no longer freelancing for a start, well, not full-time anyway. I have an interest in dooyoo.com now and love it. I'm able to get involved in new techniques and the whole spectrum of marketing, not just SEO, and additionally am involved in product development which, well, I love it.

Er, this is kinda off topic though eh? Maybe if I mention that I bid no more than necessary on Goto and Goto UK, with even primary branding keywords kept down to around £0.08 or $0.15 then no-one will notice we're just chatting eh? ;)

I just e-mailed GoTo asking what their highest bid was, and for what terms.
They wouldn't tell me, for security reasons. Probably worried about idiots clicking on it for fun/nefarious purposes.
Oh well.

Thanks Minnaple. It is kind of a pleasure to be posting again after time away. My last few clients have been rather well known domains who were very hot about secrecy etc. so I hadn't a lot to post for a while.

Add to that the fact that virtually my entire lifestyle has had to change, and 'spare' time has been in very short supply. :)

Hmmm, better say something intelligent about Goto again I suppose now ... er ... goto is an absolute lifesaver if you have to promote a dynamic site with query strings in the URLs even while you are getting the database reworked to have static URLs.

Goto is currently giving me around 50,000 referrals a month, at an average cost of around $3,000 per month, (or £2000 in my local currency) but that is for a huge site with a vast array of keywords - mind you, I've barely started yet.

On data recovery, you can bet the people typing that word in (up until this thread started anyway) are looking because they need it, and immediatly, and when you charge a bare minimum of $3000 to look at something and maybe even fix it (didn't look at this site but I've been in the business before), well, it's just about as easy a thing to convert to a sale as anything.

When a hard drive dies containing something that your business relies on and there is no backup, it's no different than watching a small fire burn your house down, you don't have time to shop around, to nitpick over the price, you've got to call the fire department.

There have been threads all over the WWW about HUGE activity on certain costly KWs from many PPCs.

This may explain why it could be imprudent to bid on expensive terms. While the PPCs may not intentionally want to promote scams, it sure could be a profitable business for those willing to %#?* us webmaster.

From FindWhat:
"The first is a basic revenue share based on your search traffic--we typically pay out around 40%, depending upon the volume of traffic from the
partner."

So it stands to reason that the higher the bids the higher the scam ratio - imo

nt+data+recovery

1 - $18.46
2 - $5.00
3 - $4.58
4 - $0.21

Why bother paying $13.46 more per click for no reason?
