FindWhat - huh?

For us it was a real bad investment...

We put our top 50 kw's on FindWhat about two weeks ago using the same penny bids as on GOTO. Have actually only had one, COUNT'UM, ONE click-thru. In the same span of time I have had thousands on GOTO (all penny bids on very competitive terms) (and, that one click-thru may have been me)

Glad it was only 25 bucks, though I kinda wish I had it back now...

Had same results with Rocketlinks, I think they are called Bay9 now. I had 4 clients worth of keywords and it took 4 months to burn through the $25.00 bucks.

Kanoodle gave me some trial, I wasn't impressed with reporting functions with either of these.

I am getting tired of the calls and e-mails from FindWhat and others PPC companies promoting specials.

"we found you advertising on GoTo . . ."

Hey (PPC.com) bud! thats my advertsing account your draining!
Please send me a check for your prospecting.

Oh ouch. Thank you minneapple. I did not realize Rocketlinks had switched their name. slap forehead. That's makes alot of sense (currently running some banners for them after rejecting a proposal by rl - grrr the horror of an ad broker).

But Steve, aren't you seeing an increase from the Excite deal already?

Brett,

I did get a second click-thru from FindWhat :)

Sorry - it's still flat-lined...

I was not happy with my trial run with them either. I pretty much have written off PPC promotion though. It is just not very cost effective. Some of my search terms on goto would cost me $2.50! That is $250,000 per 100,000 hits!

Fortunately my sites average 60+ #1 rankings and 120 top tens on the other search engines. These bring me more traffic than the PPC's including goto anyway.

There is something to be said for putting the right effort into your promotions.

Wow.

Talk about déjà vu, Webace.

If it costs $2.50 for you to be ranked first on a particular keyword and you don't want to pay that much per visitor, DON'T.

The difference is each visitor is obviously costing you less, you will usually receive traffic that is more targeted. The final difference is less traffic.

The whole idea behind pay per click search engines is to test, find some conversion rates, calculate an approximate cost per sale and spend an amount on each visitor that you can afford to pay.

It's not hard.

You stand to be corrected by thousands and thousands of people who will disagree with you. People who are successfully running PPC campaigns.

IF ANYONE has a PPC campaign that is NOT cost-effective, they are doing something wrong.

I just don't see the point. I see a search engine as a telephone directory, or a resource for people. When search engines first began, they were university run, free, full of accurate information. Now they are all out to make a quick buck! What should I have to pay for everytime somebody wants to see my ad? If I wanted to do that, then I would pay for banner advertising, use Yahoo's $199 service, pay looksmart, etc, etc. I can't be bothered to spend that sort of money, when any fool can come along with a bag full of money, and a bad site and stick it in first place. I live in the Czech Republic, where the wages are low, where beer costs you 10 cents a bottle, where cars and electronics are twice as expensive as in the US or UK...I just don't have the money for GoTo, I also don't have the credit card option like US citizens do, because it is expensive to get an international credit card here, it would cost me at least $5,000!!! So where does that leave me, a man offering an honest, good service?

Have you ever considered a site that sells stuff to folks in the USA? A site that would pay you in $US.

I think people in Eastern Europe have a unique opportunity on the WWW because of the currency conversion rates.

There is a member here that found a person in the USA who would provide her credit card to fund a domain, hosting, Yahoo!, Looksmart & PPC. The site belongs to the guy in Eastern Europe but has a USA address. He sent wired funds to the woman who set up everything in the US and they worked out a deal where he ranked the site and she provided the credit card - he gets a check each month in $US.

We have clients in the US and America, but I don't get paid US pay, unfortunately :-( Don't tell anyone, but I take home, about $500 per month before tax! And things are more expensive here!

Hi all!!!
We opened an account with Findwhat last week,
I chose the keywords, listings etc..
Unfortunately till now it says that there are no money on the account even if I put them on with credit cards, so I wrote them and they told me they're processing the card manually ????
I would like to know if anyone had got the same problem or something similar.
thanks.

I started an account last week with Find What out of curiosity. They show the money being in my account but my terms are still being reviewed. How long does this usually take?

I opened an account with them two weeks ago. My search terms showed up in 3-4 days.

For one of my sites I was able to access my account right away and make changes.

For the other site it took about a week for it to show up.

I also emailed them about it and they wrote back the the next day ...

<<<<Greetings,
I apologize for the inconvenience, as we have been updating our servers. Although your account is not displaying keywords at this time, they will appear once the system

I would expect with their listings now showing up at Excite, it may take longer.

I just added more keywords yesterday, so I am playing the waiting game as well...

I've been with them since 3/4 and have had a total of 24 clicks.

They had to "manually" process my AMEX card as well - and the strange thing is that they actually asked for the four digits that appear above the end of my CC#. When I told the guy that I wouldn't give him that info he was almost apologetic and said "no problem" and that it was just used by their finance dept. Strange huh?

afutant:
The call you received was from Glen who validates all new accounts. They make these calls as a method of fraud protection. Some new clients will not have their card with them and therefore not know the 4 numbers. The accounts are then activated in that case.
