For some of my terms the CTR on Yahoo Ads are approximately 25% of the CTR on Google Adwords for almost identical ads and identical terms. Both with budgets not being fully spent or unlimited.
When I asked a similar question in reverse on the Adwords forum folks offered explanations but I'm not totally convinced.
Do other folks here see major differences in CTR between Yahoo and Google?
Thanks
Sid
No need to have high page views AFAIK.
I think that I may have found the reason for low CTRs. I had my settings on advanced match and picked up in my tracking logs some really strange terms used that resulted in clicks. If those terms got some clicks I dread to think what terms my ads appeared with that did not result in clicks.
There is a strong correlation on my logs between strange terms used resulting in a click and lesser known partner sites. The problem does not seem to appear on Yahoo.com.
I've changes them all to standard match and I'm now expecting a higher CTR and lower ammount of wasted clicks.
I hope that this stimulates others to look at their logs. The problem is that you have to look at the raw logs to spot strange terms used because your analysis software will just ignore them. It tells you the terms used in n% of searches. Rather than pointing out a relatively large number of random one offs.
Best wishes
