Yahoo compared to Google

Google no longer wants my money

I've advertised via AdWords for years, but Google has rendered my account useless with its sudden increase in minimum bid levels for keywords.

I went to Yahoo Search Marketing today and was greatly confused. I'm used to AdWords campaigns containing multiple ads, and Yahoo wanted me to create one ad, sign up, and then pay for a month's worth of ads up front. So I canceled out before giving my credit card information. So a bunch of questions:

1) I want to run about 50-100 ads to multiple web sites. Once I create and pay for the first ad, can I create more ads and group them in an intelligent fashion?

2) Is their a way to run ads only on search or content?

3) Do I have to prepay for a month up front? I've run $6000-$8000 per month on AdWords, but I don't want to pay that amount before even one ad runs on Yahoo. Do they have a pay as you go like AdWords?

I wish their was something that explained all this, showed you a sample of everything you can do and every option available before putting charges against my credit card.

I'm also confused but not that far.
I'm not even sure which of their programs is the "adwords" equivalent.

I don't know how things work now for new users as we've been using Yahoo/Overture since it was GoTo.com.

At that time, you paid $25 in advance to get started, then you paid when your balance depleted (or you could opt for autocharge when they estimated you would deplete your funds in 1-2 days). That's still what we have (although $50 is the minimum), but I don't know if it's available to all or just grandfathered advertisers.

1) You can make 1 ad per kw if you want or use the same ads for lots of kws. Kws can be grouped into categories, no subcategories. Be prepared for lots of random kw rejections.

2) You can chose search or content but can't opt out of the search partners. This is bad cos they seem to be v low quality.

3) Once your ads are going they charge you for 4 days spend in advance, based on your current rate. I haven't heard of paying a month in advance, sounds scarily desperate if its true.

You have read about how terrible the click quality from Yahoo is these days right?

Just because the CPC may be 50% what Adwords is charging, that doesn't mean that you are going to be profitable from Yahoo's clicks. Try for yourself, but don't be surprised when your conversion percentage is about 75% lower than your conversion with Google.

my overture ads cost 20-25 cents more and the conversion rate is 1-3% less than adwords.
