We get mostly hot, dry weather out here that tends to dry out the wiring of many phone boxes. When they crack and then it rains, moisture seeps in and disrupts the communications. Even DSL lines are often affected.
As far as their answering machine going missing, it wouldn't surprise me if the issue is an inadvertent redirect over to some other phone line.
Seriously. Their problem is probably rain-related.
Yes, it is true that rain in Los Angeles creates problems. Specific to our customer service center, I understand that they had a brief issue in regards to their phones working. However, they are up and running again. This could have lead to a small back up, so please be patient.
