What do you make of this?

So I asked Yahoo(Overture) to review some click activity that looked suspicious last week; one day I had about 20 clicks by 9am when that terms usually gets 20 clicks in an entire day.

I had them investigate suspicious activity for another client the week before and they did find a high number of suspicious (aka fraudulent clicks).

Well Yahoo sent me an email saying my recent request to investigate for click fraud did not turn up any click fraud, however - they were issuing me a credit for a certain amount as gesture of goodwill. Hmmm, interesting to just GIVE me a credit when they found no foul play :)

I think it's because I am spending maybe 10% the amount I used to spend with Yahoo just 3 months ago. I think they are just trying to 'win' me back as an advertiser. What do you think?

Could it also be that while it may not have been "click fraud" it may have been one of the other dodgy things that are happening with them these days and rather than have you investigate further they threw some money at you to keep you quiet.

Just a thought :-)

maybe it shows their confidence (or lack of) in their fraud detection system.

How can you tell you had 20 clicks by 9am? I thought you couldn't get clicks/impression counts until the next day? Obviously you can so I must have misunderstood your reply in another thread.

I know that they occured between 12:01am and 9:00am because that is when I made the term offline. I saw that the previous day had horrible conversion results so I paused the term. The NEXT day I saw that I had received all these clicks the prior day and since I had turned off the term at 9am they had to be before that time.

It would be great if Yahoo gave click/cost updates during the day, but that's never going to happen.

maybe they refunded the money because the term wasn't properly paused

No technical issues weren't a factor. It was basically one of those 'you are an important client...let's give him something' kind of gesture.

Thanks for the clarification. Sounds like they are definitely trying to appease you.

Boston,

I am very proactive in my anti click fraud campaign, and I am constantly sending Yahoo/Overture log files and sources of information to prove my points.

To date, they have not admitted 1 sources of click fraud in there system, however because of their robin hood type goodwill, I seem to get credited back the money I am asking for.

Go figure. I just feel sorry for the poor schmoes that dont have a clue.

Reading all the recent problems with yahoo and having my own little incident this past week I think the attorney general needs to investagate them. They deny click fraud when it is obvious, they claim account holders change their budgets when they haven't but yet they are quick to offer hush money. I do not believe it is to keep the customer using yahoo but to it's to keep them quite. Maybe if enough complaints are filed with the AG then something will be done. You big money spenders and deep pocket players are the ones the AG will listen to.

I am still waiting on them to prove to me that I logged into my account and removed the budget :(. They can't because I didn't. Their logs have no record of me loggin in when that budget was removed.
