Analyzing your Overture clicks

Can anyone recommend a good program that they use to identify the Overture clicks in their IP logs? When I look at my IP log, I just see IP addresses...but have no idea which have come from Overture(and their partners), which have come from Google Adwords and which are just clicks as a result of natural search.

Can anyone share how they obtain this level of detail in their weblogs.

Thanks

Are you referring to your web server's logs? They should be including the referrer and the request, in addition to the IP address and whatnot.

If you are using a tracking code appended to the target URL in your ad campaigns (like:

ht tp://example.com/widget.html?source=YAHOO123
, one code for each term/campaign), then these will show up in the request, and the referrer will inform you from where the click came, either from Yahoo, Google or from an affiliate or partner.

Without tracking codes, it's pretty tough to make an accurate analysis of any PPC program.

Incidentally, if you're signed up with AdWords, you can get into the Google Analytics program and that will help you even without the tracking codes. It's pretty good.

We have individual tracking codes for each keyword in Overture and Google Adwords. I guess I am not looking at the weblogs correctly because I only see IP addresses'. I'll investigate more.

Thanks

Sorry, bostonseo ... of course you have tracking codes! I see your comments about SEO analysis all over the place!

Yeah, see what your log file format is. It doesn't sound like you are looking at the 'normal' logs ... maybe a stripped down version that's only logging IPs to save disk space or something. I've tried some experiments with minimizing the amount of data I'm logging, but ended up going back to (Apache) combined or only slightly modified in order to get various analysis programs to be able to use them.
