hi,

i was just having a surf round and noticed that amazon are now showing overture results on their product pages above or in between their actual products for sale.

Now, i can see this being a big earner for amazon and i can sort of see how it could be a benefit to the advertisers, but there is no option to opt out from appearing in this listing either, without stopping advertising with Overture.

Has anyone else noticed this.

I had a look and it said that the results were coming from AdWords. I'm not sure if this counts as content advertising or not. I also feel it gets in the way of the actual product information on Amazon.

hi sem4u,

It is definately overture they are coming from.

"Sponsored Links are advertisements that Amazon.co.uk provides for you. We receive Sponsored Links from Overture. When you click on a Sponsored Link, we get revenue. "

I don't know if this differs in the US, but the above was taken from a "what's this" link on amazon.co.uk

I definately aggree with you on that it is in the way of their products listings and this will bug the users for sure. I wonder how much they make in a day from accidental clicking on those ads thinking they are links to books or amazon prods?

Does anyone now when this started?

I was looking at Amazon.com and this is what they say about the ads:

"Sponsored Links are advertisements that Amazon.com provides to you. We receive Sponsored Links from Google's AdWords service."

You are right about the Amazon.co.uk links coming from Overture.
