For low volume keywords does everyone agree to avoid "advanced match" on Overture "like the plague" as I read in a similiar post?

Anyone have a general rule of thumb per keyword as far as percentage of clicks between Google and Overture?

Any feedback is apperciated!

Thanks.

Hi,

What I do is keep check of my visitor stats. If I notice somebody visiting my website via an Advanced Match search and the keyword they used is really nothing to do with my business, I simply add the word to the 'Excluded words' list that Overture allow you to do.

For example if my search term is 'home business' and I notice somebody found my website via Overture by typing in 'home business in Canada' ... I'll add 'Canada' to my excluded word list. I do this because if you turn the Advanced Match completely off, you may be limiting yourself to valuable traffic.

Advanced match, in my opinion, is too advanced and too broad. You're better off finding a large list of relevant keywords and using standard match than having a small list and relying on advanced match.

I recently changed all of my Categories from Advanced (wanted increased traffic) to Standard (needed less traffic) Match.

That's not enough, is it? To change the Categories?

It looks like I need to go through every campaign and change the Match Type setting on each keyword individually, as the Category changes had no effect, once inside the Categories.

Is that right? Changing the settings on a Category does nothing to effect the terms in that Category and I need to do each of them individually?

So ... what good are Categories?
