Since the changes we had a huge jump in the clicks we were charged for. Overture admitted that it was probably a system issue. However we've been trying to get more of a idea what caused it since Overture can't even figure out their own problem.
We checked our log files and noticed thousands of hits coming from the IP range 66.196.92.10 to 66.196.92.19.
This IP range resolves to Inktomi's Spider/Yahoo Slurp.
The first problem is the thoudsands of visits we received from this IP range. The second problem is it hit every one of our tracking urls.
Let me explain a bit further. We have a unique identifier for each ad in Overture. It looks like www.mysitehere.com/OVER123
Our system translates the OVER123 to our keyword for that ad so we can watch conversion ratios for each keyword. However on the same days we've seen a huuuuuge increase in clicks and charges are the same days we've seen visits from this thing.
Anyone have some more insight into this. Could this be the cause or just a seperate event?
