What Happened to the Blue Band at the Top?

I just found these boards... very informative! Thank you!

It appears that Yahoo has removed the blue band at the top labeled sponsored results for several of my most important search terms. Moreover, in others, they have gone from three in the band to two in the band.

Does anybody have any clue why these differences occur. Could it be related to the bid levels for the terms?

Thank you in advance for your responses!

Jim

I'm still seeing the band for some results.

It looks from a casual perspective like they're moving to be more like Google, with really good ads (as determined who knows how) 'winning' the 'bonus spot' on the top.

It's a way for them to drive prices even higher. If you reduce the number of top sponsored ads from in most cases 3 spots to 2 the supply and demand goes even higher. If you look at your keywords I'm sure you see a significant bid gap between spots 2 & 3 on a lot of your terms.

All about the $$$$ for Yahoo.
