New Overture Matching Is Too Broad

Just noticed some odd, irrelvant clicks coming in on the traffic logs for "common widgets" -- a term not targeted. Turns out the traffic comes from an Overture ad on "thermonuclear widgets". Since the advertised term contained "widgets", Overture's new broad match thought it was an appropriate broad match.

IMO it's not a good thing for Overture's algo to ignore targeted terms and match to other phrases.

Just a heads up to check your logs for suspicious traffic.

Some useful info from Overture customer service on this:

"we have a tool called Godzooky that is used when there is no match in Match Driver. Goodzooky uses the first 60% of the listings in the Index (search terms, titles and descriptions) and attempts to find an algorithm. "

So, Overture was running the ad targeted to "thermonuclear widgets" on "common widgets" because the description said "solves problems common in thermonuclear widgets" -- note the inclusion of "common".

Wouldn't it be nearly impossible to get around this if you are using broad matching?
