When looking at the Overture tool what is a "good" amount of searches per month that makes a keyword or phrase worth a lot of effort to optimize pages for?

10,000?
100,000?

Is it correct to figure that the keywords listed in Overture get a certain times more searches in google, how should I figure this?

I wouldn't focus totally on an amount of searches if your looking to optimise, I would focus more on the amount of competition.

If you were to find two keyphrases with both similar amounts of searches and on Google for instance keyphrase 1 has 3,500,000 pages displaying results and keyphrase 2 has 500,000 pages displayoing results then I would go for keyphrase two.

You have a better chance of getting a higher ranking with keyphrase 2 than you do with keyphrase 1.

Even if keyphrase one had a lot more searches I would still focus on keyphrase 2 if the search amount was acceptable. I would also focus on the keyphrase that best targets your business.

Overture range their results over a number of search engines. You can compare results by using the overture search tool comparing to Googles estimated traffic tool.
