Just got this from Overture today:

Dear Overture Advertiser,

Businesses like yours are helping change the world, and we're pleased that our paid search products are playing a role in your success. We appreciate your business, and we're constantly working to help you connect with more targeted customers.

To acknowledge your status as a valued Overture advertiser, we’d like to offer you no-cost assistance in evaluating and expanding your Overture campaign.

This assistance could include:

Finding more relevant keywords
Revamping titles and descriptions
Calling upon our team of experts to answer any questions you may have regarding how to get the most out of your Overture advertising
Please note that this is a limited-time offer, and you must contact us to accept it no later than November 30, 2003.

Is this just sales talk with their people persuading you to bid on more keywords or what?

They aren't doning this because they think you are a nice person.

It could be valuable though if they had any usable suggestions about titles and copy. You only have to add any additonal terms you feel comfortable with.

Just don't go in with your eyes closed and your pockets open.

Call them and see what the deal is.

My guess is that you know more than they do about your business.

This might be helpful for people new to Over or the PPC game.

But who knows, maybe they can help you out.

It can often be helpful to get a different perspective on what you're already doing. My experience has been that something like this won't necessarily give you any new ideas directly, but it can sometimes unleash productive new trains of thought.

Just keep your eyes open, as Tropical Island says.

They most definitely can help you out...They found 10,000 or so keywords to add to an old campaign of mine that already had 10,000. Give em a shot, like Tropical_Island said, only add the keywords you feel comfortable with.

So if one of my competitors signs up for this, will OV tell them which phrases/terms I'm bidding on?

With Over's history of having a very blurry idea of ehtics (dealing with scumware is just one) one could only assume that their "consultants" will have access to the data base and will probably use it to aid them in making additional revenue suggestions.

This is only my opinion - not fact.

It sounds like you just signed up for an OV account in the past couple months and they assume you'll be a platinum advertiser.

If you spend a lot of money with OV, expect to see more of these 'customer service' options.

One of the best reasons to do it is to get a relationship with an OV employee so when you have problems (and you will), you know someone to call and have them fix it instead of going through their customer support email.

Exactly my first thought.

>Businesses like yours are helping change the world

I would feel treated as a fool reading such a opening.

Let's be blunt here.

If you go to any of the tools provided by the suppliers, do you think they want to make it hard or easy for you to spend cash?

Google's new tool is great, you come up with one word and it gives you hundreds, nay thousands, of keywords to bid on, but if your competitor can come up with that one word too...... woo hoo you have yourself a bidding war.

I think in some cases the suppliers have a bear faced cheek to charge you to provide this sort of service, but hey that's another topic.

If it saves you time and gives you more inventory, then take full advantage of it, there will be no "catch", but if you do act on the advice, expect to spend more money, but if it works the way it should, and these people are experts with the best data available, then use the knowledge.
