Overture ads as seen in Lycos

Some, but not all

I was trying to figure out how a client's ads were appearing in Lycos when the account had not been activated (ads approved but not changed to Active status).

Upon closer inspection, I found that they were really OV ads. What I cannot understand is why some of them refuse to display in Lycos, even when there aren't any other ads. Any theories?

The OV ads are $1.50-$2.00 whereas the top bids in Lycos are $0.05-$0.15 for the same keywords. Which ad will show in Lycos when the latter campaign is activated?

On Lycos the first three ads are from Overture (the left hand side listings)
The 4th and 5th come from advertiser's who directly put up campaign with Lycos- For these 4th and 5th positions you need to take up I and II positions on the Lycos campaign set up
If you bid for the III place on Lycos campaign set up your listing will show up on the first position on the right hand side text listings

Thanks for the comments, but in the examples I saw, the box ads in the right-hand column (Adwords-style) in Lycos were from OV.

One of them no longer shows up for me in Lycos but others do. Perhaps it is treated as backfill. I'll sticky you the examples.

Yea, I don't think Sarah's explination is completely correct. I have many listings that are the highest Lycos bids and I only show up in the right hand side results, not in the #4 spot of the left hand results as Sarah sugguests.

Yes, I stickied her some of my terms. My guess is that not many people advertise on (or use) Lycos, so it backfills from OV in both columns.

My client has just turned on their account at Lycos, so I'll have to see if the OV ads also show on the same page.

As for the OV ads not showing in a Lycos search, I checked and saw that the OV bid was too low (ranking below 9th in one case).
