Overture and Illegal Drugs

It seems they do not know what is legal and what isnt.

Just received an email from Overure saying that 29 out of 29 of my search listings have been declined. Wondering why, I log into the Direct traffic centre and find that my legal products have been declined because they are illegal drugs. The official spiel from overture is:

"Sites that appear to facilitate the use or distribution of illegal drugs or substances whose primary purpose seems to be recreational mind alteration are not permitted on Overture. This includes sites that seem to facilitate the evasion of drug laws, such as those promoting ways to beat a drug test."

Anyways on further inspection i have found that several of my previous listings have been declined for the same reason. I know forum rules prevent me from saying what the products are (can i say fitness widgets) but they are in no way illegal. So i ask the overture contact if they are working from a list of illegal drugs and guess what they are not liable to comment on this.

My opinion is that i think that the editors faced with a product that might seem out of the ordinary or seem dodgy they will automatically decline it.

Any comments or experiences on this?

Yep, that's probably the case. It is most likely totally up to the editor who looks at your ad. I would suggest trying to resubmit in a few weeks and see if a different editor (with different opinions on the subject) will allow them to go through.

I've complained and they are looking into it, but to be totally honest they need some sort of guidelines for this or some sort of system to pass things onto people who can asses them properly.

I think what is legal and what is not depends on the country you are in and the one in which the ads will be shown, from an editors point of view its probably easier to stop them all until you complain. IMO anyhoo. :)

That may be fair enough Mike12345 but (hope this does not get edited by the mods) how many countries do you know where Whey Protein Powder is classed as an illegal drug?

I understand what your saying, and i dont know of any country where said product is illegal. But when people dont understand things fully mistakes are made. Would risk your job if you werent sure?

Anyway i hope it all gets sorted out for you :)

I was told by an OV rep that they are attempting to standardize the editorial process more. Hopfully, this issue (with about a dozen others) gets addressed.
