Editorial guidelines - Superlatives

"We aim to beat" - Superlative?

I know editorial guidelines are the bug bear of many an overture advertiser but I really am confused on this one. I have had listings declined that include the phrase

"We aim to beat or match any other offer"

Am I clearly in the wrong here? My feeling is that if I had said "We WILL beat or match any other offer" that I would have fallen foul of the guidelines but by saying "we aim" I would be alright.

The rep I spoke to kept telling me that I was using a superlative. He suggested that I should use "one of the best" or "one of the leading" instead. My understanding is that these phrases would definetly be declined!

Very confused!

Its a matter of opinion really. Probably the best thing to do is to try and talk to someone a bit more senior as they will most likely understand the rules a bit better and perhaps be a little more forthcoming.

>try and talk to someone a bit more senior

We get the best results by going to "Support Center" and clicking on "Support Request Form"

We make the subject: "APPEAL to Senior Editor"

They do have people in place with brains ;)
It is difficult to get to them by phone and account reps are only there is help you spend money. They don't seem to understand or care much about the editorial process. imo

Is it stated on the page that they land on? We had a simaler thing happen in the past with lifetime satisfaction or your money back garuntee. I was told at that time that I had to have it on the landing page. Of course that was several months ago and their editorial policies seem to change weekly, so it may not be the case anymore then again perhaps the editor I was talking to didn't know what he was saying.

No it is not stated but could easily be added if so required. However they didn't decline it for this reason.

Just to make life more interesting. I have now had several listings accepted for a different site that include the exact phrase that was rejected.

Just trying to laugh about it and just may take a visit to Espotting instead.

Thanks for the info Mike

You may just want to try resubmitting the listings as is. This works for me about 1/2 the time. The editors are all human and OV seems to give them broad interpretation rights. What one editor deems a reject, another will think is fine.
