Yahoo- 3rd Place Nickel Bids on Bottom

Yahoo's dropping 3rd place nickels to bottom when 1 & 2 are 10 or higher

Hello to All,

I've been away for three months so please forgive me if you've been all through this subject. Thanks to the "heads-up" I got from this message board in February I was able to drop all of my bids to a nickel just prior to Overture's price doubling to a dime.

However, I've now noticed that on some of my 3rd place bids I'm being dropped to the bottom of the page on Yahoo. In other words, in some cases Yahoo is only posting two Overture Sponsor listings on top and dropping the third Sponsor to the bottom of the page. I evaluated the differences with the other bids.

It looks like 3rd place nickel bids get the boot to the bottom of the page if the other two bids are a dime or higher. If the second place bid is also nickel, the top will still display three bids. Has anyone else noticed?

Anyway, I brought this to the attention to Overture and suggested that this fact be listed in their website. They were a little flustered by the question. Their response was along the lines that they are unable keep-up with all the policies all of theri search engine partners. (Funny how this change just seemed to have escaped their promotional news emails).

Regards, Cheapskate (formerly EL)

No, I don't think it's that straightforward, but you bring us a very important issue: how many results does Yahoo show at the top of the listings?

For some terms, Yahoo shows four Overture results before their main results. This includes both high-priced terms (e.g. storage, casino) and low-priced ones (e.g. aspirin).

For other terms, Yahoo shows only two results at the top. The third bidder on Overture is at the bottom of the first page of Yahoo results. However, this is not when the third bidder is a low price. I have several terms where the third place bidder is at over $10 and is still at the bottom.

These terms, where only the top 2 show at the top of Yahoo listings, are also the terms where MSN doesn't show any Overture listings. I don't know if this is a coincidence.

msn is showing listings from overture for many of my search terms but only the top three at the top of page one....no others on page two search results.
this tends to boost overture bid prices for those who want appearance on msn.......they must be in top three of overture.
one solution i had was a nice listing with looksmart......the description is critical for the search term and will cost an additional $19 to edit if you want to try to change it....but i did get top #1 listing.
