These numbers don't make sense to me: I entered my desired search term from overture's suggestion tool and listed is 74,444 searches done in month of Feb and on another case, a site that is SEO'd (#3 on SERPs) is reporting about 10,000 visitors from SE's alone. This would make 300,000 visitors a month. How can overture report 74,444 searches in the same month while these guys are getting 300,000 visitors? I asked overture staff and they say these searches are gathered throughout their SE affliates including aol, yahoo, etc and not just their overture.com site. Can anyone explain this to me? I just hope the 74,444 search volume is not accurate because that would be very disapointing as this is a very popular search term. That's only 2,500 a day and if you convert that to say 10% click-thru, that's only 250 visitors. Doesn't make sense to me.

Sorry to say, Overture is pretty accurate on their info. They have highly sophisticated targeting technology as well as a high end Oracle Database to store such information. They also have a high clientele status. From my experience working with them, the clicks are there, the money is spent, and the visitors do come. I do have to say, I believe your actual competition is a definitely portion of your visitors.

Here is a little tip although I should not reveal it because it is part of our technique. I call it "Harnessing the original form of your product or service." Figure out what exactly you are trying to promote on your website. In short, once you know what you are trying to do use high-density keywords to start your initial campaign BUT….. Use low-density keywords as your explanation of yourself. Throughout your whole website content, tie your high-density keywords into your low-density keywords, explaining your product or service. Use this method in promotional emails as well. Once you have your high-density keyword visitors understanding that what you are can be explained completely through your low-density keywords, you have just made a low-density keyword a high-density value to your cause. If possible trade/service mark these low-density keywords. Its only $50 for about 10 years of ownership.
