Anyone heard anything new about the Gator deal with Overture? How are ads going to be placed on the Gator network and once the person gets to your site does Overture guarentee that another pop up window wont come up to sweep the user away?

Alot of people are pretty mad about them picking up Gator. Myself included. I just wanted to get some more information to throw back at the rest of the staff and most important my clients who spend alot of $$$$ at Overture.

That Overture deal with Gator is more sinister than one can imagine. Gator plants a cookie into one's browser. Said cookie gets added to ones hard drive. After hard drive is infected with said cookie, Gator takes over all future searches.

Gator pop-unders begin attacking while searcher is online, and before logging out, these pop-unders start taking over one's screen. This is a free software download by the name of AdServ which inspects the hard drive and alerts to all possible "scumware" infecting the PC. Not all searchers are aware ways to fight back from this devious invasion of privacy.

IMHO, Overture must be DESPARATE for traffic to make such a marketing deal with the Devil. However, any traffic from Gator will prove worthless, and NOT worth the price of the bidded term.

I run adaware every morning and remove any cookies etc so as to stop this. Waste of my time quite frankly. I wonder if I could sue Gator for this.. I think not sadly.....!

Actually Gator traffic can prove to be very effective sometimes. ROI aside, it makes me cringe to see these kinds of deal get made. Where will it end?

Maybe OV will take enough heat they'll pull back from this, but I doubt it.

"Gator plants a cookie into one's browser."

I would assume that there is no one on this forum that doesn't block cookies.

When Gator takes over searches do they not have their program scan the current page you are on to find out what kind of ad they would pop up at you? If I am correct what keeps them from throwing a pop up over your content not only giving the user the impression you might have pop ups on your site but can potential get them to click away.

I know alot of people use Gator but how many of those are acctually by choice?
