I am new to Overture, and find there sign up far worse than Google's which was very straightforward with lots of FAQ and they only ask for my CC at the end.

So my question is, is there any way to find out how much the bids are for a certain term before signing up and spending money with them?

Overture has a bid tool that will show the current bids for various keywords.

Thanks coconutz.

After signing up for them I must say I am a little disapointed with the whole thing, there seems to be very little documentation and it now takes 3 - 5 days!

Compared to Google which is so easy, fast and extremely informative through the entire process I am surprised they are so popular.

That would be because they are second only to google in the amount of traffic you will get. You could sign up for all the rest of the CPC engines out there and you would probably still get less traffic from all of them combined compared to overture.

Money makes people willing to jump through HUGE hoops.

I quite honestly think you will find Overture quite easy and a big, big help with really low prices for generating much traffic.

Although the AutoBid system and Match driver have been big steps backward (in my opinion) I find the rest of the Overture system far superior to AdWords. Better interface, easier tracking, straightforward bid-for-position. You can easily sort bids by category - big help when you don't want to sort through pages of bids to find a few crucial ones. And Overture can drive more traffic than anyone else.

I think once you get the hang of it, you will find it very easy to use. Whether or not it is cost-effective for your particular use, only time will tell.

The "wait for review" is a pain, though.

When it comes down to it, adwords and overture are just 2 different animals. They both have their pros and cons. Our company has had great success with both and There are things about both systems that I wish I could carry over.
