I was just checking on one of my Overture accounts and was going to adjust some bids. It is a small campaign so I am not using any bid management service or software and I usually only have to check and modify the bids once a week.

Most of my bids are in the 5-10 cent range. I was going down my list and then I saw it: On one of my bids I set it to $10 rather than $0.10. It had been this way for at least a week. Luckily it was set on auto bid and the people below me didn't notice and kept their bids at $0.09 and below. If they would have been sneaky they could have raised their bids and cost me lots of money.

Moral: Check your bids a couple times after updating.

Don't you hate it when you make stupid mistakes? I know I do. But, they happen to everyone. Thankfully for you, it cost you nothing. And, even if your competitors took advantage of the situation, it would have only been money...and that sinking feeling.

One of the things I sometimes do to see how much I am bidding is sort the column by my bid amount. That way, high dollar amounts show at the top (or bottom).
