LookSmart Australia - dubious practices

Looksmart arbitrarily increasing search term exposure

I'd urge anyone using Looksmart in Australia to take a close look at their October invoices.

Our most recent bill from them was for around four times the usual amount. When I took a look at the server logs for the relevant period, I noticed they'd taken it upon themselves to increase our keywords by a similar multiple - introducing search terms that are completely unrelated to our business.

I was pretty astonished by their front - even more so when my phone contact with them didn't result in an immediate cancellation of the invoice.

Has anyone else run into this kind of thing with Looksmart Australia? I'm curious to know whether this is purely a function of their losing some key staff recently, or reflective of some new strategy.

We are talking Looksmart here. Don't be astonished by anything they do to get your money.

If you search the archives of WebmasterWorld you will see EXACTLY why I make that statement. The sad fact is that if you choose to deal with them, it is at your own risk.

Deodato...........

I am a bit confused.

Why are you complaining about more results?

Looksmart Australia are not a PPC model except for large business listings.

If you are a small business you only pay an annual fee.

Which are you?

I use Looksmart Australia under the PPC model. When I signed up with them, it was for a clearly defined list of keywords.

Everyone loses if Looksmart delivers us clicks for products and services we don't supply: we pay for a click we can't convert, the user wastes time and Looksmart.. oh wait.. Looksmart profits.
