I thought I had to pay a lot for keywords. What is the most expensive keyword that you have come across. I know the maximum bid is around $50.00 on overture. I saw CASINO at $20.00.

Use the search funtion [searchengineworld.com] at the top of the page to find threads that have covered that subject.

"Conference calls", "conference calling" and "teleconferencing" were up to $40+, but have since dropped off, back down to $20+

I've seen "data recovery" at $50 more than once, and between $30 and $40 quite often.

there is a certain keyword (I forgot the word) which regularly gets bids of around $50.

most of the bidders seem to be lawfirms, as the keyword is medical related and possibly the law firms are preparing a multi million $$$ case against the manufacturers etc etc.

Try "mesithelioma". Top 3 are $50.

>>Try "mesithelioma". Top 3 are $50<<

Are they bidding $50 on the mis-spelling as well, or does Overture auto-correct?

(Proper spelling is "mesothelioma")

That is just ridiculous to have such a high bid rate. Just to have some fun I typed in Casino on overture and clicked through to the bottom of the list.

LOL, if the whole ww board does the same - those guys will go broke and sue you for something :)

bcc1234, at least if they do go broke then it will get rid of those annoying popunders advertising casinos, that i see nearly every five minutes of the day. :) Im all for it click away....

Most anything where the potential exists for a massive class action suit like mesothelioma has the potential go have several bidders across the board.....till all the companies they sue go belly up.

Wow, those keywords are massive. Seems to be in another world compared to the UK Overture prices. The main high price ones you all mention above are all low prices on uk overture!

Wierd!

How could they sue me for clicking on a link on my browser?

If they don't want me to click their ad they should spell out their acceptable-click policy. Though that wouldn't leave much room for ad copy :)

DeCal,

certain medical keywords which regularly go for $20 in the USA are NOT prescribed in the UK. (current bid in the UK for same word is 0.06p and thats from an information site)

also the Lawyers bidding silly money has NOT caught on in the UK, as there probably is not as much call for making Billion £££ claims against big companies.

Maybe it will catch on in the uk, i personally think PPC is the way forward

Someone should put out a monthly list of the most expensive keywords. PPC'Dex could help drive some of the prices back down to reality.

If you look at the small numbers of sites paying the high prices for, say, "casino", you see the value of old sites that come top of the "normal" free entries

to me the cost of keywords is always respective to the cost of goods.

data recovery at $50 you pay ten times that
inkjet cartridge at $50 you get a years supply for that

time attendance is sat around $15 but the average contract is in the £1000's

epson inkjet cartridge is $3.36 and the ave compatible is £2.99.

personally i think that epson inkjet cartridges is more expensive if you see what i mean (ROI)

Yeah but i think its more about return custom which i'm sure you can understand, especially with casinos and cartridges that are used all the time!

yer over 50% repeat orders but we are one of the cheapest which i think makes all the difference, easy to use site, easy to remember domain name.

But how many people visit by habit you go to a site and remember how you found it example to to yahoo searched blackjack it was in the top three. so next time you want to find that site you go to yahoo and search for blackjack.

I ran a adwords for about three months with a full scale user tracking script
dropping 90 day cookies and tracked user to order, we got a massive data set to work with and found that adword users came back via the adword sometimes 3 or 4 times per single order which can really mess with your ROI.

our biggest cross-section of repeat customers come from google even when they know the domain name they still go to google and search for domain name.

creatures of habit.

It's a major worry for anyone using PPC if your customer always uses your ad to find you.

yeah especially at say $30 / £20 a click, that could be a real nightmare!

it would be nice if PPC put something in there to only charge each ip once per keyword...regardless of how many times they click.

perhaps you should encourage your customers to bookmark the page for futre reference... it may help.

Maybe that is a solution but what are YOUR personal opions about sites that ask to be bookmarked? Mine are that i think it is naff!

yeah...most sites that ask to be book marked kind of stink and tend to look very unprofessional.

although there are some that have the add to bookmark link in the footer of the page, those i think are allright.

usually i will bookmark pages if they have decent info that i want to go back and look at, rarely do i go back and look at it though...

Maybe it's time to make life easy for the habitual offenders and say that you've noticed they are one of your best customers and you want to allocate a dedicated account manager to handle them. Give them a special URL or whatever, anything to keep them away from the PPC ad. Take their orders over the phone. Even if you offered them a discount it would still be cheaper.

I think the thing with printer cartridges is that nobody buys them one at a time, they buy in bulk, otherwise the lions share of expense is the shipping. So $3.99 a click on a $5 product wouldn't make sense, but a $3.99 click on 10 times a $5 product starts to look more promising.

Shipping is such a great lever. Free shipping for orders over X. Often people will add extra stuff just to get the feeling they are winning, which they are, but so is the merchant, that sounds like a win/win situation.

This is where the "education" of the customer sits. Steer them towards, or away from what you want them to have or not have.

Now where did I put that book on hypnotism I got......
