will this work if I am willing to control a market

I am the owner of a website that is involved in a lucrative market. Most of my competitors have been enjoying a low cost on their PPC program. I have a large budget and deep pockets as well as multiple websites.

This is my plan. Most of my competitors have bid keywords upto 1.95 or so. I plan to do the following.

1. Bid number one position on overture by bidding on the major keywords for $5.00 each on one website. Have the bidding feature set on Auto so that I will actually pay only one penny less that my competitor.

2. Bid number two position on overture by bidding on major keywords around $2.00.

This way I occupy number one and number two position on the websites and am paying no more than $2.01 per click. Remember, I am in a lucrative industry where each click can mean hundreds of dollars.

...and so your competitors will do the same? Have a nice war.

ouch baby, any jobs going in your industry.

I used to think my industry had bucks, but I still would not be doing what you are planning.

Cant wait to see the response of some of the others.

Welcome mikeinseattle!

I would agree with Josk here. If your industry is that lucrative then it follows that they will have large budgets and deep pockets as well so you will end up in a bidding war...

Please let me be your competitor. I'll bid $4.99.

You'll end up paying $5.00 and I'll pay about 5 cents more than I'm paying at the moment.

Oh and Overture will double their profits whilst there are people stupid enough to try brilliantly thought out strategies such as yours ;)

Overture Listing Guidelines

Duplicate Search Terms:

*Advertisers may bid on search terms only once, even if they list sites using different URLs or through separate accounts. This policy helps ensure that users are presented with a variety of results, and it prevents a single advertiser from monopolizing a particular search result set.

Have you actually looked at customer value and your ROI before you thought about this? Can you really, truly *afford* this strategy?

I don't mean, "Do you have the cash today."

I mean, "Does this make good business sense."

I have been looking at this post all morning, and have come to the conclusion that this is a Wind-Up post.

Therefore NO further comment from me on the matter.

You guys have a good point, however, $2.00 seems to be ceiling for everyone. I check the bids at least 10 times a day so I think if someone bids on cent less than me I will catch it pretty soon. What if I just maintain a really high bid position for one website and check often to see if anyone has raised their bid substantially. Is there some sort of software that will keep you abreast of the changes without having to log into overture every hour.

I am new to this part of the internet but find it quite fascinating.
