I see that Ebay is bidding #1 in our favorite cataegories again. Im talking up to a buck a bid for a page with up to 20 items, costing no more than $10.

They must be using autobidding software, as they are matching one of our competitors that also feels they must be number 1. The gap is approaching 75 cents on a 1 buck top bid.

In the past, Ebay does this for a couple of weeks, and then basically disappears or move to a lower position in the listings.

Has anybody ever noticed this behavior from Ebay in their favorite keywords.

I am led to believe that Ebay actually bid on over 500,000 keywords.

I've got to be honest we never get involved in any stupid bidding wars with Ebay. We don't need to. Their ads are shockingly badly written and were it not for the fact they spend a lot of money on them I am convinced they would struggle with the editorial relevancy rules in some instances.

If you do get involved in trying to outbid, you'll lose, as they just insisit on being #1 regardless of ROI or any other sensible factors. Much better to just concentrate on what is happening in your campaign and concentrate on that. On virtually every niche keyword we bid on against Ebay we regularly get in excess of 50% CTR from a #2 position (usually there isn't a #3), so they will be getting a lot less than that, but hey it's Pay Per Click so I guess maybe they don't spend so much after all...... could it be just a branding exercise?

500,000 Keywords. They must have a special service level for e-bay. Call it diamond level,
where you can break all the content and relevancy rules and get away with it.
