Has anyone ever gauged the actual market value of a given keyword? I see on OverPay (oops I mean Overture) that some of the keywords are at 12 bucks. I guess if you know your ROI, but WOW, is the keyword actually worth that much?

What if I go to another PPC and bid on the same keyword at 50 cents? Is it just that their traffic is of lesser quality?

Would it be feasable to estimate the market value of a given keyword by going to all the major PPC engines and find the price for that keyword then do the math? Maybe this would give an advertiser a reasonable place to begin their bidding.

Darn Ego Bidders.

>market value of a given keyword

The market value of a KW is just what you see on every PPC at any given point in time and has nothing to do with ROI. Market value is what poeple are willing to pay, whatever their reason. Ego can be a reason :(

Good. So would you say if the keyword limos is between 50 - 5.00 across the ppc's, then I should bid in the 2.50 range. I'm am not looking to be #1. And of course last place sux. But if I were to bid in all the engines then this would at least give me a starting point with the budget that is not filled with an Ego.

Plus this will give me a budget to spread around a little. I can determine which is the best traffic and who I should spend the most with. Obviously I want to know if Overture traffic is really better than traffic from Mamma, Sprinks, Ah-ha, etc...

>starting point

As a general rule I'd suggest starting at #10 and move the bids up until your ROI starts to suffer.

For that KW you might not even bid on the core word. Note the use of geographic limits in the titles and description. It is not only the price you pay but the title and description + YOUR SITE that will have an impact on your ROI.

I agree. I posted something in another string about site quality. Star fields, blinking text, etc are probably not going to make someone buy something on the site. A friendly secure site is the best approach.
